About the Exhibit

The series “Where Love Lies its Head” is an intimate journey ​captured through the lens of analog photography, set against ​the softly lit backdrop of a serene apartment on a gloomy ​day. These images echo the tender and tumultuous moments ​of love, mirroring the themes of my upcoming poetry book of ​the same name. It is filled with the ailments of love and the ​ways it has shaped me to love more purely. Each frame was ​cultivated in my real-life experiences before it was captured ​by my hands.

Each photograph in this collection is a visual ​representation of the ebbs and flows I ​experienced recovering from the loss of a deep ​relationship. They mimic the inner dialogue of ​beautiful, grandiose, and sometimes ​burdensome emotions that often escape our ​grasp too quickly.

Through these photographs, I ​aim to capture the essence of ​love returning to its home.

Gabrielle Nicole Edwards, known artistically as Gabrielle Nickole, is a Dallas-based lifestyle and ​intimate portrait photographer specializing in analog photography. Born in Louisiana, Gabrielle’s ​artistic journey began at the age of 17, when she first delved into the world of black and white analog ​photography and learned how to develop her own film. Her early dedication to the craft earned her ​second place in the state as a junior photographer.

Her brand, Film and Lace by Gabrielle Nickole, embodies a commitment to transforming everyday ​moments into ethereal narratives, where each frame tells a story of personal journeys, quiet ​reflections, and the beauty found in simplicity.

Gabrielle’s work is characterized by its timeless elegance, delicate interplay of light and texture, and ​a profound appreciation for the nuances of natural light.

As a Black queer femme, Gabrielle’s journey into the intimacy of photography was motivated by a ​dedication to creating safe and expressive spaces for all her clients, ensuring she not only captures ​their outer beauty but also their inner stories and strength through her lens. Over the years, she has ​worked as both an independent artist and a studio photographer, honing her skills and broadening ​her artistic vision.

Beyond her photography, Gabrielle has been invited to speak at various colleges and high schools, ​advocating for LGBTQIA youth development and inclusion. She is also passionate about supporting ​safe, Black, and LGBTQ+ friendly spaces, integrating these values into her work and community ​involvement. Her love of photography and her community continues to inspire those around her, ​and she aspires to become a prominent figure in the Dallas art scene.
